“Those from among you will rebuild the ancient ruins; You will raise up the age-old foundations; And you will be called the repairer of the breach, The restorer of the streets in which to dwell. Isaiah 58:12

Jesus was our example of what loving God and loving others looked like. As His church, we are called to obey the gospel and work towards living out that gospel in our personal lives and communities.

At Jacob’s Well, we believe in a head, heart and hands gospel. True faith is a visible faith, believed in the heart, understood in the mind and engaged with the hands. To follow Jesus, means we are called to live as servants…Jesus came to serve and has commissioned His body to make disciples who will proclaim and produce the fruit of the Kingdom…on Earth as it is in Heaven.

This is a practical call that involves loving and serving our neighbors as we would want to be served. Food, clothing, relationships, healing and restoration are practical needs that require deeds and not only words. It is too easy to develop a christian life that is theoretical instead of practical. The mental assent to theological positions becomes a smokes screen for a self centered, compassionless life, that ends up perpetuating a religious system of people who love to be “moved” but never “mobilized”.

“You guys are all into that born again thing, which is great. We do need to be born again, since Jesus said that to a guy named Nicodemus. But if you tell me I have to be born again to enter the Kingdom of God, I can tell you that you have to sell everything you have and give it to the poor, because Jesus said that to one guy too… But I guess that’s why God invented highlighters, so we can highlight the parts we like and ignore the rest.” -Rich Mullins (deceased musician)

Faith and works are never separate from one another…they are one. A truly spiritual life is one that nurtures a life lived in worship of God in all things. Loving others becomes an act of personal worship. Faith, love, service, worship, mission and theology soon…intertwine into a wholistic life of Christ centered, Spirit empowered and God glorifying…purposeful living.

“Great opportunities to help others seldom come, but small ones surround us daily.”  -Sally Koch

“If your gospel isn’t touching others…it hasn’t touched you.” -Curry R. Blake

We are seeking to live out the dream of God for this world. God loves the world that He gave His Son to redeem. Our work is a mere reflection and expression of His tremendous love for everyone. We celebrate that love by giving our lives in service to others.

This is what the LORD Almighty says: Once again old men and women will walk Jerusalem’s streets with a cane and sit together in the city squares. And the streets of the city will be filled with boys and girls at play. “This is what the LORD Almighty says: All this may seem impossible to you now, a small and discouraged remnant of God’s people. But do you think this is impossible for me, the LORD Almighty? -Zechariah 8:4-6

The CRC seeks to mobilize Christians in community development with a Christian vision for their neighborhoods.

We begin here…on our street.
